A 7.3-Metre Boat, Four Gladiator Species
In this clip, the Hook, Line and Sinker crew set out aboard their 7.3-metre Bar Crusher with an ambitious goal. They weren’t just after a marlin: they were chasing the full billfish grand slam, four species in one campaign. That kind of target separates a casual offshore trip from a serious gamefishing campaign, and they attempted it from a trailerable boat they ran themselves, not a dedicated charter operation.
The Boat Behind the Goal: “The Producer”
The boat carrying that ambition was a Bar Crusher 730HT, nicknamed “The Producer” during its two seasons as the featured vessel on Hook, Line and Sinker. It was rigged with serious tackle for this kind of fishing: multiple rods, outriggers, and lures run from both the riggers and the shotgun position. In other words, it was set up to run a full spread, not a single line in the water.
Mission Accomplished: The Full Grand Slam
The goal set out in this clip wasn’t just talk. Across its time on the show, this boat landed the full billfish grand slam: blue marlin, black marlin, striped marlin and broadbill swordfish, all four from the same 730HT. That’s a strong proof point for what the boat can do in serious offshore conditions, not a one-off lucky catch.
A Bulletproof Fishing Weapon
Bar Crusher calls the 730HT a “Bulletproof Fishing Weapon”, built for hardcore anglers who push the limits offshore. That means battling marlin and tuna, deep-dropping for broadbill far from home, and long runs well beyond the coast. By rearranging the sub-floor framing and moving the cabin forward, Bar Crusher gave it the largest cockpit fishing area of any model in the range. It carries 420L of fuel in the SafeTank™ system for long-range running, has 1750mm bunks for overnight trips, and is rated for 200–350hp.
Underneath is Bar Crusher’s proven Gen2® hull with Waveslicer® design, a Rigideck® sealed sub-floor and 612L of Quickflow® water ballast, all scaled up on a 2.45m beam for serious offshore work. The optional Bar Flap® holds ballast in when conditions turn rough.
The Takeaway
A billfish grand slam is an achievement few trailer boats can claim. Landing all four species from a single trailerable boat, run by a TV fishing crew instead of a professional charter, says as much about the platform as it does about the anglers on board.
