Where the Pilothouse Idea Started
When Bar Crusher launched its Hard Top Pilothouse (HTP) series in 2014, the 670HTP was one of three models introduced, alongside the 730HTP and 780HTP. Co-founder Peter Cleland summed up the thinking behind the range at the time: it was built for anglers who take their fishing seriously but want more comfort and protection than an open hard top offers. The 670HTP was the smallest of the three, bringing the lockable cabin concept to a more compact, more towable package.
What the 670HTP Offered
Built in Melbourne like every Bar Crusher, the 670HTP paired a lockable cabin with real overnight comfort. It had a V-berth with infill cushions, configurable interior storage (a fridge, passenger storage or slide-out tackle drawers), and bolster seating built for comfort standing or seated in rough water. At the helm were a full-height toughened glass windscreen, sliding rear and side windows and an optional wiper. Lockable split rear doors gave the same balance of security and access found across the Pilothouse range.
Still a Serious Fishing Boat
Despite the added cabin, the 670HTP kept a proper fishing cockpit. It had 800mm of internal freeboard, cast-aluminium rod holders, a livebait tank, a baitboard, a kill tank, and a folding rear seat hiding the dual-battery setup. It used the same 5mm hull construction and Waveslicer deep-V as the rest of the range, with 20 degrees of deadrise at the transom and Quickflow water ballast for stability at rest. Fuel capacity was 190L as standard, with a 260L long-range option.
Where the Pilothouse Range Is Today
The 670HTP is no longer part of Bar Crusher’s current range. Today the Pilothouse line is built around two larger, further refined models: the 730HTP, described as made to “stay overnight – on the water or on the road”, and the flagship 780HTP, with 450L of fuel, a 2.10m V-berth and a plumbed toilet. If the comfort and security in this video appeal, those two models carry the idea forward. Prefer a 6.7m footprint? The open 670HT remains one of Bar Crusher’s most popular hard tops.
