A Perfect Score From Every Judge
At Trailer Boat Magazine’s Australia’s Greatest Boats competition in 2012, the Bar Crusher 670HT did something no other boat on test managed that year: it scored a perfect 10 out of 10 from every judge for fishing suitability. It wasn’t a fluke. Bar Crusher had already won the inaugural competition in 2010, which gave the 670HT’s result real continuity. It’s why Bar Crusher still calls the 670HT “Australia’s Greatest Boat”.
What the Judges Said
The panel’s enthusiasm came through in their own words. Angelo San Giorgio compared it to a performance car: “It performs like a Porsche... there aren’t too many that compare.” John Willis was more blunt: “It handles like a skateboard!” John Ford praised how smoothly it got onto the plane even when run flat out. Kevin Smith called it “beautiful to drive... an absolute winner of a boat”, and Jeff Strang named it “the pick of the fishing boats” in the whole field.
The Boat Behind the Result
The 670HT tested in 2012 ran a Suzuki DF175 fuel-injected four-stroke. It planed in around three seconds from a standing start and topped out at over 40 knots, strong numbers for a boat built first for fishing, not speed. At 6.7m with a 2.35m beam and a deep Waveslicer hull running around 20 degrees of deadrise, it paired that performance with a wide, open deck, a clear cabin and supportive seating. It also had the fishing essentials: tackle storage, a baitboard, a livebait tank and a kill tank.
Quickflow and an Early Look at Bar Flap
The judges singled out the Quickflow water ballast system for its stability, along with an early version of the electric Bar Flap for controlling the ballast from the helm. It’s a useful historical marker: the Bar Flap that Hook, Line and Sinker showcase on their 670C was already part of the conversation around this boat in 2012.
Why an Old Award Still Matters
A win from more than a decade ago won’t tell you what a current model costs or exactly how it’s specced today. But it does something a spec sheet can’t. It’s independent, judged proof that this hull earned the unanimous respect of experienced testers against a field of real competitors. That kind of lasting credibility counts for more than most marketing claims. The 670HT has since been redesigned from the hull up, keeping the award-winning hull underneath.
