My name is Michael Bennett and I have a Bar Crusher 640C with 150 E-tech Evinrude motor.
We fish out of Swansea NSW and we regularly run out to the Continental Shelf which is approximately a trip of 30 nautical miles each way.
I had previously owned a Savage Osprey which I was pleased with but I bought the Bar Crusher as we were travelling further out to sea and I wanted a more substantial boat.
Last March we went out to the shelf chasing marlin. I had been listening to the radio as there was a weather warning about a strong southerly change.
We decided to head back in to beat the weather but when we hooked the tuna (pictured with son Luke). We landed the fish and headed back in. About 5nm out from Swansea Heads the southerly caught us. It was blowing 30 knots, gusting to over 40 knots, the waves were curling on top, probably around 2-3 metres, not the best conditions to be out in. I have to say, apart from getting wet, the boat handled it with complete ease.
We maintained about 14 knots, the ride was not bad at all, we got home with absolutely no worries, and at no stage were we in danger.
All the testimonials I have read about the Bar Crusher rough water handling were true.
The crusher is easy to maintain, extremely stable when anchored, and easy on the back when travelling.
My only regret is not buying the hardtop version for complete weather protection.
