It was after a great deal of research and planning that I became the proud owner of my Bar Crusher 560c about 12 months ago. I wanted to purchase the biggest and best boat I could fit into the garage under my house - and certainly on paper the 560c fitted the bill , and into the garage with only inches to spare(after some trailer modifications)
I did a pre purchase water trial and was impressed with the ease of handling, and the boats ability to handle simulated rough conditions- the test conditions were flat as a tack, but we were able to play in the wash of a couple of 40 footers charging up the bay.
Kakele`s (Hawaiian for casting for fish) maiden voyage was out of Mooloolaba, on a day that the conditions were less than perfect, in fact I commented to Col that in the old 4.5 Quinnie we would probably have retreated back into the harbour. We thought well, let's point to where we want to go and see what happens? The Bar Crusher just revelled in the conditions and we were able to comfortably manage 20 knots into a stiff southeast wind, my confidence in the boat was quickly established.
The crusher has been a real head turner both on the highway and on the water.
The primary function of the boat is as a fishing platform, and in that regard it has excelled. In over 12 months and numerous trips we have not had a fishless day. I would like to share some fishing stories that highlight the boats versatility.
The first capture, a school mackerel was after about 20 mins trolling
Our next trip was down to Jumpinpin for some flathead fishing. The stability of the crusher at rest was fantastic and there was hardly a tilt with 3 adults fishing on one side. The first flattie over the side was an impressive 90 cm`s.
The current flathead season has seen the boat take 12 flatties between 70 and 90 cm`s (all released!) and approx 50 keepers up to 70 cm`s, in 4 trips!
By November our attention turns to trolling and in particular for Billfish. I had the crusher fitted with brackets for my outrigger poles, and we were keen to see how she would go with some serious trolling. Once again she exceeded my expectations, with outstanding fuel economy from the Yamaha 115 4 stroke. We had not experienced a lot of success on billfish over the years, but that all changed in the Bar Crusher. During the season 4 of my crew caught their first Marlin, including my son Tim!
The Bar Crusher also seems to be very good at attracting other pelagics and in particular Wahoo!
With the increased level of safety and range I was able to get out a bit wider and have my first go at jigging. I was lucky enough to catch this black spot kingfish on my 3rd drop
The purchase of my Bar Crusher has given me enormous pleasure. Wayne and his crew at Stones Corner Marine were, and still are, most helpful. The boat and motor combination works perfectly and everyone who has fished in her have caught fish and felt safe and comfortable.
I have been towing with my 4 cylinder Subaru Outback with no trouble.
The Bar Crusher certainly does provide stress free boating. She is easy to clean after a day's fishing; easy to handle even on your own; very economical to run (I can troll from 6:00am to 4:00 pm at about 6 - 8 knots on about 70 odd litres); surprisingly roomy as a fishing platform or general pleasure craft, and all the features just seem to work (e.g. the folding screen and targa, the kill tank, ground tackle, access for boarding, helm position, bait board etc).
As you may by now have gathered I am obviously very happy with my Bar Crusher and would thoroughly recommend them.
